Race for a Living Planet
11 of the past 13 years rank as the highest temperatures since records began. Mountain glaciers and snow cover have declined globally causing an increase in sea levels. Average Arctic temperatures have increased at almost twice the global average rate in the past 100 years.
In the future, because of what we are doing to our planet, we are highly likely to see:
• Warmer and fewer cold days and nights
• More frequent warm spells and heat waves
• Increase in heavy rains and flooding
• More areas affected by drought
• Increased tropical cyclone activity
• Higher sea levels
The estimated cost of climate change is 0-3% of GDP annually by the time the earth’s temperature has risen 2-3 degrees with poor countries effected disproportionately.
By making a few simple changes to our everyday behavior you and I as individuals can make a huge difference to our planet.
